Melamine foam is a new type of foam with a three-dimensional lattice structure with high open cell ratio manufactured from melamine, which has excellent comprehensive properties such as cleaning ability, acoustic absorption, flame retardant, heat insulation, moisture and heat resistance stability, antifungal, friction, hygiene and safety, and good secondary processing. These characteristics make the product widely used in building venues, vehicle manufacturing, factory construction, thermal engineering, equipment installations, air-conditioning systems, aerospace and marine fields, national defence industry, electromechanical products, daily cleaning and other fields.

---- Acoustic performance

As the melamine foam sponge is composed of three-dimensional mesh open-cell structure and has extremely high open-cell rate (open-cell rate is as high as 99.9%), the sound wave can easily and effectively enter the deep layer of the foam body, and is transformed into the vibration of the mesh to be consumed and absorbed, and at the same time, the reflected wave can be effectively eliminated. Melamine foam has superior sound absorption performance in a wide range of sound frequency, especially in the absorption of low-frequency noise with outstanding effect. It has been tested that when the thickness of melamine foam reaches 8cm, the sound absorption coefficient of low frequency noise reaches 0.85~1.07 for 315Hz~500Hz frequency.


---- Flame retardant property

Because melamine foam is made of melamine (melamine itself is a kind of flame retardant), so melamine foam does not need to add any flame retardant or other additives, it can meet the following standards: B1 low flammability material standard; UL94-V0 high flame retardant material standard of the Insurance Institute of America; EU BS 6853, NF F16-101, DIN5510 Fire certification; Chinese national standard GB/T8624-2006, Class B (flame retardant) flame retardant standard.

The excellent flame retardant property of melamine foam is shown in three aspects:

a) Rapid carbonisation: no flame is formed in contact with open flame, no droplets occur, the surface is carbonised immediately, oxygen is isolated, and the reaction speed is slowed down;

b) Stop immediately after leaving the fire: once the open fire leaves, the foam stops burning immediately, no sparks, no re-ignition;

c) Low smoke density: smoke is the main factor of personal injury in fire.

According to scientific and technological testing, the smoke density level of melamine foam is less than 15, which is much lower than common similar foam materials, such as flame retardant polyurethane foam smoke density level is less than 75 (National Standard GB/T8627-2007 GB/T 8627-2007 Smoke Density Test Methods for Combustion or Decomposition of Building Materials).

---- Thermal insulation and heat preservation performance

The three-dimensional net structure of melamine foam can effectively prevent the convective heat transfer of air, which makes this melamine foam has excellent heat insulation and heat preservation effect. At the same time, the good thermal stability of melamine foam also provides a guarantee for the heat insulation. Melamine foam belongs to thermosetting foam, has a high degree of reticulation crosslinking structure system, compared with the traditional polyethylene, polypropylene ethylene and polyurethane foam materials with lower degree of crosslinking, it has a high degree of thermal stability and aging resistance, and it can work stably for a long period of time in the temperature zone between 180℃ and 200℃, and it can withstand a high temperature of 240℃ in a short period of time.

The bulk density of melamine foam is 8±0.5kg/m³, which is one of the lightest materials among the foam currently available, and it can be foamed to produce specific density and colour according to the requirements, which meets the green demand of energy saving and emission reduction.

The stable chemical structure and crosslinks of melamine foam give it unique chemical stability, and it is non-toxic, odourless, fibreless and powder free, its hygiene can reach the requirements of food hygiene grade, and it has been widely used in the daily chemical industry, food industry, electronic industry, indoor decoration and transportation.

---- Reprocessing performance

Melamine foam can be processed into various shapes by cutting, chipping, spinning and other mechanical processing and hot pressing; at the same time, the foam body can be conveniently compounded with a variety of materials to form a series of acoustic, thermal insulation, heat insulation and other products.
